I’m a patron of Matron, a connoisseurer of the brewer. A dark with class, is in my glass, signed and sealed from Bloomfield.

A brewery on an old farm, in a farm to table community, for the local farmers and the rest of us too!
Yes, from the blooming and booming metropolis of Bloomfield, Prince Edward County. Not to be confused with Bloomfield, Prince Edward Island, which I could see happening. This farm to table community has a population of 477 which seems to be just enough people to operate two wineries, two distilleries, and two breweries including the one in question, the Matron Fine Beer brewery.* Guess what the farmers are doing after their field work is done.
Bloomfield is in JT’s backyard, figuratively speaking of course, not exactly over the fence or the hill for that matter. But less than a one beer trip,** unless it’s a walk on the sun hot day and you’ve just been doing yard work and are as thirsty as a Saharan camel on hump day.
As for this brew, it’s time for a dark after dark. And it pours porter dark, stout dark, and Schwarzbier dark. That’s a lot of dark to pack into one shorty! A sweet cocoa malt roast aroma, smells fantabulous. Dark dank and delicious on the nose. First taste is a full roast cocoa, no coffee or bitters but it does have an edge to it to start with. The edge edged out, then departed leaving a dark smooth and decadent chocolate dark stout, hold the espresso. The faintest tingle adds a bit of complexity. Tasty.
If you ever wondered what a decaffeinated porter would taste like, this is it. Matron didn’t muff this one, it’s a sweet tasty dark.
