Not my first peachy pint, in fact, not my first peachy poolside pint. Come to think of it, not my first sneaky pint either. * Lake of Woods warns us, they call this alliterative ale “deliciously delectable and deceivingly drinkable”. They also advise us not to “mistake Sneaky for a Geldof and definitely not “and Herb”. ** The Peaches and Herb slight seems to be directed at all the disco fans reading this review, as in none.*** I’m just hoping this one isn’t a Sneaky Pete. ****

The letter of the day is “P” for peachy pint.
I’m parched and parked by the pool with a peachy pint, time to partake in this pale ale. Looks like the Sesame Street letter of the day is P.
An outstanding pour, a semi-clear, peachy orange with a hoppy head, looks picture perfect. It is busy, noticeably fizzy. The aroma is a mild peach hops malt mish mash. I was dry as a temperance tea party, so I took a big ol’ peachy pull. Out of the gate it’s fizzy and bitters with a very mild peach aftertaste. I’m counting on an evolution. Second swig the peach starts to show up with big time bitters and a bit of a bitters aspirin finish, the jury is still out. Third swig the bitters are still front and center but no acerbic bite, and the peach has stepped up to, but not over, the line. What I ended up with is a refreshing hot day quaff, bitters focused, peach balanced, tasty. Paradise city on the speakers, SunChips by my recliner and a peachy pint poolside, I was chillin’ like a villain.
Big swig test, passed with flying colours. The fizz stays the course, it is a perpetual carbonation machine. Old school bitters (the 50 IBU was a clue) and true to its name the peach does sneak up on you. A great summertime beach, pool, boathouse brew.
*Editor’s Comment: This will be the 15th “peachy” pint on the website and the second sneaky one.
**Editor’s Comment: Peaches Honeyblossom Geldof is the daughter of Bob Geldof (Boomtown Rats). She was a model and TV personality when she died of a heroin overdose at the age of 25. Her mother, Paula Yates, also died of a heroin overdose, at the age of 41.
***Editor’s Comment: “Peaches and Herb” is a musical duo group that has been active since 1967. The Herb since the start is Herb Fame (Herbert Feemster). There have been a number of “Peaches” over the years, and the name of the group comes from the nickname of the first peach, Francine “Peaches” Barker. The most successful combo was from 76 to 83 with Linda Greene, when the duo had a number of hits during the disco era.
****Editor’s Comment: The expression “Sneaky Pete” has a few different meanings but perhaps the most relevant in this case is its reference to cheap either homemade or inferior liquor or wine. The expression actually originated in the vernacular of pool hustling where a Sneaky Pete refers to a two piece pool cue that is constructed to look like a standard one piece cue. The purpose is to try to deceive opponents that the player is using a low quality cue and is not that good a player.
