Last ski day of the year and I was hitting the slopes, literally. After a couple of falls that would make the Niagara River jealous, I was looking for some après ski recovery. As I got down to the bottom of the hill, before my eyes appeared, a bit hazy from a possible mild concussion, an image and words “Quayle’s Brewery 10 minutes away”. It was a sign! A billboard actually, but nevertheless it seemed destined. Pre-destined actually, since I planned on stopping there after skiing anyway. So, to quench my surprisingly acute thirst I drove straight into the sun, sunglasses and visor no where to be found, with tunes blaring, right to Quayles. *
Time for an IPA as hazy as I was. Martians vs. Lizard People? Sounds like the folks at Quayle’s have been watching too many Looney Tunes and Star Trek reruns. ** Turns out it’s a dual hops hops duel. Two farm fresh foes, Chinook and Citra, battling it out for bragging rights. Me, I’m not playing favourites on this hop quaff off.

Marvin and a Gorn in an epic battle. Winner gets this tasty hazy IPA.
A golden hazy pro pour, the bright white head a bit hard on the eyes but no matter. An aroma of tropical juice hiding behind the hops and bitters. First taste is stone fruit tropical juicy going to mild malt funk then lively hoppy bitters. The bitters are there, then there they are gone. It settles into stone fruit juicy (some peach in there somewhere) with very mild bitters and makes for a very easy drinking refresher.
I’m not sure what farm fresh hops they were smoking when they came up with the name Martians Vs. Lizard People, but whatever they were doing they should keep doing it because they ended up with one very tasty IPA.

Thanks for the great write-up and the laughs. I loved your take on Martians vs. Lizard People. A real “hops duel” with no need to pick sides is exactly the spirit of that beer. Chinook and Citra are just doing their thing while you enjoy the ride. Maybe we will have a Catherine vs Graydon Duel next time !!
