I think it was my old buddy Rick who once said never trust a beer with no head. I might be paraphrasing here but you get the picture. Subtle segue! By the way I think I did a great job on this picture, don’t you? Lakeside by the lake side. Unfortunately the picture may be the best part of this tasting.
This beer poured as clear as a supermodel’s complexion after the photoshopping*. No head, none, zip, nada, headless as the famed horseman. Should I be worried? According to my old buddy Rick I should be. An aroma of apples, or is it pears? Apple is a well known off taste (brewing faux pas) however a Kolsch may often have fruit characteristics of apple and pear so I guess it was meant to be although the apple still doesn’t sit right with me. A flat first swig, apple juice mouthfeel and fruit with no hops, malt or bitters. Apple juice beer. Fruity, no carbonation but a bit of fizz, no zing or bite. I still am not sure if this beer should taste like this or not. If this is the style it isn’t really my favorite.
I have had other Kolsch brews that were OK, but this one didn’t do it for me. Takes a nice picture though, no photoshopping required.
