Long standing traditions form a very important part of our society, instilling family values and fostering unity within the household. At Cranky Old Men Drinking Beer we support and embrace such traditions. For example, the Elf on the Beer Shelf is one such tradition that keeps that Christmas magic alive, I know I believe. Another long-standing tradition in our family and I hope yours too is the baby shower beer tasting. A pint or two makes for more spirited mingling among old friends and distant relatives. And there is always a designated driver in attendance.

Today’s homework.
Pink or blue balloons, gifts galore and a stack of diapers that could supply any neonatal hospital ward for a month of Sundays. As the guests goo-goo and gah-gah over the gifts, I find myself at the snack table, an independent director of the charcuterie board. And what could go better with all those meats, crackers and cheeses than a frosty cold IPA. That’s right, it’s baby shower beer tasting time. And why not further your education while you’re at it with a Beer 101 lesson from Niagara College Teaching Brewery. Class in session.
A burnt orange going for reddish pour with a Chantilly lace head. Oh baby, that’s a-what I like.* An aroma of juicy funky hoppy bitters, it’s an IPA happening here. A nice full mouthfeel.** Juice throughout combines with hops for a funky body and a mildly bitter finish and aftertaste. As it evolves the juice backs off a bit and for a smooth refreshing body with the pine bitters coming to bear. This traditional IPA is another enjoyable tradition and another solid outing from NTCB.
