You’ve got your Doobie Brothers, and the Allman Brothers, there’s the BeeGees and Dire Straits, and the Police. How about the Kinks or the Beach Boys, ACDC and INXS too.* Time to add another brother supergroup to that list, the Brothers MacKinnon. Yep, there’s some bitchin’ beers brewin’ by the brothers in their big barn based in Bath. We’ve sampled some MacKinnon super suds all stars already so expectation for a house ale were as sky high as those big barn rafters. Time to see if the brothers can hit another high note.
On my last trip out to the farm I picked up this barn brothers house ale, a 4% session in progress. A healthy heap of head on this deep dark golden glass. Beauty pour, so far so good. The aroma is malt and hops maybe some spice too? Interesting, my curiosity is getting thirsty. Or is my thirst getting curious? This brew has a full mouthfeel. A taste of mellow malt with some fruit bitters, a nice transition. The malt leads with a subtle fruit taste in the background and middlin’ bitters. Very good. A classic and classy ale.
This is the type of beer I hope to find from a craft brewer, tasty refreshing and just a little different. The brothers deliver the goods, and the good beers, again.
