Last night’s lacklustre Leafs’ lopsided loss was nothing near the barn burner I was hoping for. Maybe the lethargic loss could be consoled with a Beau’s Barn Burner? Perhaps, or perhaps not.
Beau’s tell us that this is “classic amber ale, reimagined.” Imagine that. They must have hired some Disney beer imagineer to try to fix what ain’t broke. A light bodied amber “crafted for modern tastes”. They say it’s “smooth and crushable” but then they want us to “savour every sip”. In my world, crushing a beer and sipping a beer are two distinct and separate activities and ne’er the twain shall meet.* Time to tip, taste and tell.
A pretty amber pour, unburdened by any significant signs of froth or foam. Toffee nose, actually sweeter than the sweet smell of success. The taste is very light as in watery with a caramel body and not much else. Glass of still water mouthfeel, they told us it’s light bodied and they ain’t lyin’. No hops or ale bitters, not even a bit. It almost tastes flat. Where is the roar of the tractor, juiced AF, or at least a lug nut or two? The barn is in ashes and the insurance has lapsed.
I’m a big Beau’s fan and God knows I love me an amber, so that would sound like a winning combination, wouldn’t it? Shouldn’t it? Unfortunately this Barn Burner isn’t.
What we have here is a case of too much barn and not enough tractor.
