Calabogie is inviting us to join them for some winter solstice suds, but that boat left the dock about 3 months ago.* Better late than never is what most people who are late say which is little to no solace for a missed solstice. Better never late is what the people who waited for them usually reply. The end of winter is nigh so I thought I’d toast away those last few days of snow and cold with this mid winter pale ale from Ottawa Valley ski country.
A hazy golden pour is half my glass, the other half is the bright white snow crested mountains of Calabogie. An aroma of tropical juice mild hops is all the invitation to indulge in a libation that I need. First taste is juice all right, plus a malt kicker for some middlin’ mid brew funk, with some pine bitters. A bit more complex than required. Now it’s settling into tropical juice to Christmas tree pine bitters, a primarily coniferous concoction. It has a smooth full mouthfeel. The juice pine one two punch is nothing too complicated now, just balanced and tasty .
