Birch Beer for the grandkids.
When it comes to my favourite beers, the list is as Wit-less as our egghead Editor. ** I’m in the mood for a wheat beer once in a blue moon, but last night was the end of one of those days. I perused the cottage beer fridge of fable and fame and lo and behold, a lonely wheat beer was sitting in my unsampled section. My search found a White Birch on a center shelf perch so I wouldn’t be left in the lurch. Canvas had me covered!
A hazy golden wheat field pour, a bit darker than most “White” beers, offset by a nice white head. The aroma is mild malt, light and airy. The taste is a bit of malt sweet followed by some very subtle banana clove and citrus. All very light and bright make for quite a refreshing white. Sometimes with wheats you get more floral than a florists funeral, but this one has very little, bordering on none, which is just the way I like it.
It’s a light witbier that has kept things both balanced and subtle enough to be an everyman refresher.
