30,000 Islands* sounds like someone visited Gananoque and said “1,000 islands, that’s chump change”, and in the ultimate display of one-upmanship claimed to have 30,000 of the things. I guess these days anything with a shrub and a seagull is an island, but back in my day islands were bigger and it wasn’t an island unless it had a name, like Australia** or Prince Edward Island. But I am no cartographer, if there even is such a thing these days.
Trestle is out of Parry Sound, the famed home of number 4, Bobby Orr. I could go on and on about Orr, in fact I already did that in my last review of a Trestle brew (Trestle Golden). I will only repeat one thing from that past review. Don Cherry said “Everyone knows Orr is the greatest and Wayne is second” and he didn’t get fired for saying that.
How about this brew? Golden pour middlingly hazy. More head than usual, but after a few less than stellar “no head” experiences it was a refreshing change to be blowin’ off a little froth. Hoppy aroma with some fruit in the trunk. First swig, a refreshing bit of fruit with lots of hops in the finish, all good. A crisp hoppy finish with some bitters, not juicy, minimal fruit. The bitter finish may be why some people don’t like a strong IPA, because maybe it’s not as smooth as their go to brew, but I find it refreshing. The bitter settled a bit, but never disappeared and never detracted from the experience. A higher ABV you would associate with a traditional IPA, but it was never boozy, which was much appreciated.
Another well balanced traditional brew from Trestle, this time an IPA.
