My kind of campus.
I’m the big cranky old man on campus today, bellying up to the bar at Niagara College this afternoon. I’m back for a “refresher” course in Beer 101, and today’s lesson is Bock. The 7% ABV brings back some not so fond memories of my marks in physics back in the day. * The tasting room at Niagara College Teaching Winery and Brewery is quite busy today and it warms my heart to see the majority are sampling beer.

I took notes.
This bock is a clear amber pour, not at all heavy headed, and glass is in session. The aroma of caramel is light and frisky, it doesn’t smell like a heavy hitter. First taste is a light bodied caramel malt with a hop driven crisp flat slightly bitter finish. The light mouthfeel malt makes for a relatively easy drinking 7 percenter. A 7% big swigger, say it isn’t so. So! This brew passes the big swig midquaff with honours. Sweet, flavourful and easy on the palate with that nice flat crisp pils like finish. The caramel malt body is the main attraction, the crisp finish accentuates it nicely.
This one felt more like an amber with a little extra. It did have a bit of the old bock goat kick, it is a 7 percenter after all. Easy going, very tasty, just a little bit of 7 heaven.
Niagara College tasting room, very helpful staff and an interesting and tasty selection of fine brews. I’ll be bock.

Student: Why do we need to study physics?
Professor: Physics is a very important course. It saves lives.
Student: How does physics save lives?
Professor: It keeps idiots out of Medical School.
