If you thought that a boxing bruin was referring to a Boston hockey player getting ready for Christmas, don’t feel bad, so did I. But with the sparring gloves on the can I think that Cowbell are referring to the old time sideshow event of a real bear boxing. Perhaps someone should let them know that bear boxing in this day and age is definitely not politically correct.
COMDB are Cowbell fans, with 8 reviews to date of 6 of their brews, including Shin Dig and Smooth Sailing to name a few. I was surprised to find we hadn’t tried their IPA yet, so here goes Cowbell review number 9.
A near pour-fect pour if I do say so myself, and I just did because no one else will. Golden slightly hazy with a slim and trim head. A mild fruit and hop aroma, definitely some hops in the offing. First round is a bitter bruin with mild fruit in the background. As we know from the COMDB Guide to Beer Tasting, the first swig can be as bitter as a beauty pageant runner up and the brew can still come out smooth as Sinatra. I am not judging yet but hoping for an evolution. The finish was slight fizz and grapefruit like bitter. And lo and behold, the bitter settled down a bit and we now have a traditional IPA, hoppy mild fruit and bitters on the backside. The boxing bruin was almost out for the count but was saved by the Cowbell.
