After a somewhat stressful Christmas Day tasting, which left me thankful Christmas Day beers only come once a year, it was time for a Boxing Day special. You can usually count on Sawdust City for a super suds sampling so I thought a Fall flashback, their Autumn IPA, might be a nice respite from the ice and snow. Rudeneja? What the hell does that mean I said to myself out loud. According to SC, and I quote, “Rudeneja is an old word meaning the world is becoming Autumn.” * While we’re busy making up words, “Quaffacoldone” is not so old word which describes what I did last night.
A ruddy red IPA, resplendent in its fall colours. No shortage of foam this Fall. Mild malt hop aroma, a somewhat unrecognizable nose. I’m not to sure what it smells like. First taste is malt fruit body with a hoppy dark berry finish. Not a match made in heaven, nor heaven on Earth. ** Maybe it will grow on me? Nope. The malt hops fruit congregation is not quite a complementary combo. This Autumn IPA is maybe a Fall from grace?
This Boxing Day brew settled into an OK malty IPA, but left me missing Summer.
