Oatmeal and milk, it’s not just for breakfast anymore. I just reviewed a dessert beer (Candy Cane stout) with less than stellar results, so lets hope this “breakfast beer” fares better. Just to be clear, I enjoyed this stout while watching the hockey game last night, not with my Froot Loops.
This stout has a nice aroma to it, hints of cocoa but nice and mellow, not bold, not heavy. Nice thick stout pour, with a tawny head, more tan in person than the photo would lead you to believe. Very nice first swig, mellow, smooth, the great mouthfeel you would expect from a stout. Nice mellow flavour, not aggressive at all. No carbonation in the quaff but just a touch of hoppy fizz in the finish, which surprised me a bit, but made life interesting. A rich but smooth flavour to it, the oats and lactose are combining to do what they are supposed to do. Nice balanced stout, the finish found it’s place long before I was done.
Very enjoyable, its mellowness was contagious.
