To be honest with you I have been avoiding this brew, without good reason really. It has a prominent position in the grocery store beer section, is quite cheap* and seems hell bent on marketing just 100 calories. Probably my hesitance was quite simply that I usually don’t partake in light beers although there are a few good ones out there, Sleeman’s Clear and Moosehead Cracked Canoe come to mind. And Yup is cheap, I believe the cheapest beer on the shelf (note to self, let Farmer Steve know how cheap this beer is). All that being said, as you can see I did buy one and gave it a test drive. Like old Alexander Pope once said, and I paraphrase “expect the worst and you will never be disappointed”. So my low expectations led to a pleasant surprise, that being Yup!Beer.
A very light gold pour, almost bright. Clear as a see through bell. No aroma, well next to none. Ok a faint malt/bread fresh but hardly noticeable. Very light and refreshing, with a mild crisp finish. Definitely easy drinking. Easy as pie, eating one, not making one that is. Hell if I know how to make a pie but I love me a nice peach pie. A light and nice flavour there too (the beer, not the pie), all coming together in a nice light lager.
By the end I was wishing it was in a tall can and I would some how persevere through the extra 33 calories.
