Shillow certainly keeps us on our toes. Could this be another case of mistaken identity? * The first clue that something was askew was a “Strong Beer” designation for a 5% ABV. ** A label typo, no biggie, explainable. The first physical evidence we see is the pour. A brown ale by name, but no shades of downtown brown here, the shades are drawn and this brew is black ice black but not nearly as dangerous. Perhaps an oatmeal stout black, but certainly no brown to be found.

This is the beer we think we are drinking.
Maybe the nose knows, the scent could make some sense of this. Roasted malt, cocoa and java, perhaps an oatmeal stout aroma, but no nutty buddy brown finish here. But we all know when it comes to a cold case mystery such as this that the taste test is the best test. Time to break this case wide open.
Full roasted malt, with a bit of sweet and coffee too. Great balance and very nice mouthfeel. This is an Oatmeal Stout, there is no doubt. Once again, no brown to be found. An easy drinking, and very tasty stout, great flavour, and balanced to a tee.*** So what’s not to love? It turns out nothing. A great stout going down, no brown to be found.
Another super successful summertime stout time sampling session. Brown out, but no black out.
