Sunset Lake Effect, Time for a Beer
Lake effect for me is a cold front of a frosty brew after a lazy line in the lake evening. But any meteorologist worth their weight in road salt will tell you lake effect is what buries Buffalo in three feet of snow at a time. Apparently GLB was inspired not by a snow day but by “a summer spent drinking heaps of IPAs in Buffalo” which would have a definite affect, as opposed to effect, of it’s own.* Regardless of the inspirational origins of this brew, or any pedantic postulating, at 80 IBU we are predicting hoppy, and hoping for happy.
A golden slightly hazy cold front with a bright white blizzard topside. A little juicy, a little hoppy, smells great. The first taste is less juicy and more hoppy, with bitters throughout. No sequence, it’s all happening at once, but it’s all balanced too. A tropical and citrus juice combo, mango or pineapple perhaps? The grapefruit pine bitters are start to finish, not over the top or under the radar, not overstated or underrated. There is a bitters backbeat shore to shore on this great laker. I really enjoyed this IPA. If you like some bitters with your fruit, not after it, then this brew is for you. A summertime, and anytime IPA.
