This review will be short but not sweet. Last night I wished this concrete blonde was still in Hollywood instead of in my glass. *
Believe me, I have nothing against non-alcoholic beverages…. that taste like they are supposed to. There is a time and a place for them. I was actually looking forward to sampling this Sober Carpenter blonde, their previous Irish Red was passable, as in I would pass it up for a real beer. But drinkable. Let’s put it this way, it is very seldom I don’t finish a beer, very seldom. So you know it’s the dregs if there are more than the dregs left in my glass.
The only redeeming quality I can find is that this looks like beer in the glass. That is where the similarities ended. It does not smell like beer, any kind of beer I have encountered, and believe me I have encountered quite a few. It has a weird taste, a lager malt background with chemistry class chemicals? There was no chemical romance here, mine or anyone else’s. **
They sure did miss the mark on this one. I’m not sure what it actually tastes like, but I am sure it doesn’t taste like beer. I didn’t finish it, what’s the pint, or the point.
*Editor’s Comment: The rock band Concrete Blonde had a 1986 hit with the song “Still in Hollywood”.
**Editor’s Comment: The New Jersey rock band My Chemical Romance was formed in 2001. After a 6 year hiatus they got back together in 2019 and are still active.
