Do the Math

Tread Lightly

Muskoka Brewery

4% Alcohol

Marketing genius, that’s what JT would say. Farmer Steve would call it “a profit making deal”. RA would down one quick and ask for another.  If it’s not Crown Fonger couldn’t care less, and JF would add an extra dollop of Picon to this one. Of course, what I’m referring to is the 568ml version of Muskoka’s Tread Lightly. I can handle some basic arithmetic, but when you start talking mathematics you can leave me out of the equation. But even though I’m no Einstein, what I do know is 4% of 568ml is more alcohol than 4% of a typical 473 ml lite.  So basically you can drink a lite beer while at the same time getting about the same alcohol as a regular beer. * I know, genius right. That’s what JT would say.

Now if you could brew a lite with the same alcohol as a regular beer that has the flavour of a regular beer, well then, you’d really have something wouldn’t you. Actually, you’d just have a regular beer. But if you could brew a lite beer with the same alcohol as a regular beer that has the flavour of an extraordinary beer, then you’d have something extraordinary, wouldn’t you. Time to taste and tell whether this brew is just some extra ordinary or if it’s extraordinary.

Pour deux. C’est la meme chose.

A Muskoka BBQ of burnt burgers, baked beans, and a big ol’ beer is hard to beat. Note to self, don’t time a burger on the BBQ based on a 568 ml brew.  The portion of the can that I could fit in the glass resulted in a classic clear two finger foamy pour. Looks like it could be the centerfold in the May Edition of Beer Beauties Monthly.  But too much for one glass, it’s going to be a two-pour chore. First taste is sweet lager with no bitters or hoppiness just mild but not light malt.  The sweet gives way to a more recognizable lager profile, not light but certainly easy drinking. A couple of big swigs and it was on to the second pour, and you guessed it, more of the same.

A nicely flavoured light beer designed for the dock, the BBQ, your cooler,  or any kind of daytime drinking you had in mind.

*Editor’s Comment: The “mathematics” that challenges our Reviewer is a relatively simple exercise first taught in grade 5 or 6. Tread Lightly at 568ml at 4% = 22.72 equivalent mls of alcohol. A regular beer of 473 mls at 5% yields 23.65 equivalent mls of alcohol.

**Editor’s Comment: Upon further review, it appears our Reviewer has reviewed this beer before, only this time he’s just reviewing more of it.
