Dog Daze

Every day is a dog daze around here when I have to walk the snaggle toothed, butt draggin’ ,leg humpin’, buffalo breathed, canine member of the family. I use the term “walk” loosely because our four-legged freeloader does more sniffin’ then walkin’. If a dog is a man’s best friend that doesn’t say much for your other buddies, now does it. Me and Jimmy Page have been dog dazed and confused for so long it’s not true.*

Cameron’s has brewed up a refresher for the dog daze of summer, spell checker be damned. They stuck some kiwi hops in there for that way way down South touch. As in penguins in the backyard South.  As in right next to the South Pole South. Time for some way down South suds scoring.

Hazy daze, with a dark orange pour, minimal froth on this canine craft of a quaff. Strong fruit on the nose, has kinda a double boozy smell. First taste is super sweet, a candy tropical fruit salad, sweet and juicy, almost cloying. Now the sweet is backing off a bit, some mild hops have come to play. A tropical juicer with mild hoppiness. It started out overwhelming but just ended up whelming. **  An OK pale in my books.

*Editor’s Comment: The Led Zepplin song “Dazed and Confused” is from their 1969 debut album. The song, although credited to Page on the album, is a substantial rework of the 1967 song of the same name by Jake Holmes, who wrote and recorded it in a folk rock style. The Yardbirds (who Page was a member of) reworked the song and it became a staple in their concert set. Holmes tried to contact Page regarding the song credit but had no success. He filed a lawsuit in 2010 which was settled out of court, the credit for the song being revised to “Jimmy Page, inspired by Jake Holmes”. This isn’t the only song that Jimmy Page was taken to task on. A lawsuit was filed on plagiarism for the opening to the song Stairway to Heaven, which went back and forth in the courts over the years until eventually Page won.

**Editor’s Comment: One would hope that our reviewer’s grasp of the English language is as firm as his grasp on his beer glass, but such is not the case. In one of the oddities of our language the word “overwhelming” and “whelming” are synonyms and have the same general meaning. To be overwhelmed could mean to be more whelmed.

**Reviewer’s Comment: That’s what I meant. At first I was overwhelmed but then less so.
