I like coffee as much as the next guy, unless the next guy is Farmer Steve. Coffee is Farmer Steve’s Amber. He is a caf-fiend. A 10 McCafé day is child’s play for him. All that being said I don’t know how he would react to this coffee rich stout. I think he would probably prefer a dark rich hot coffee, as opposed to a stout that tastes like a dark rich cold coffee.
Dark, darker, darkest, with a thin tan head. Thick pour, substantial, like coffee coincidentally, or not. Coffee aroma for sure, smells like Starbucks on a free espresso day. Coffee sweet, good mouthfeel, touch of bitter on the finish, smooth. Coffee taste and aftertaste, all of it with a sweet base driven by the milk I would assume. I am guessing this taste is probably very similar to the iced coffee drinks at Timmies. The coffee flavour is so pronounced that it is hard to tell it is a beer of any type.
This beer was OK for a while but it got to be a bit much half way through. Too much coffee and sweet, not enough stout. I love beer and I like coffee. I think you have to love coffee and like beer to enjoy this one. I won’t be going back for a second cup any time soon.
