JT: Coming back from Costa Rica to freezing cold and Dry February is quite an adjustment.
Me: I can handle the cold.
Once again, I didn’t get the Dry February memo. It appears that Farmer Steve didn’t receive it either. If RA got it, I’m sure it went straight into the recycle bin at the Ports. Even Fonger had a drink with an umbrella in it yesterday and I know he won’t even consider a “no smoke” Saturday.
So yesterday I was getting hydrated before a Raptors game with a COM congregation, and I’m always searching for a brew I haven’t tried before. It sounded like there’s a tale to tell with a Storyteller, a brew I don’t recall reviewing. And yet in the back of my mind this beer sounded hauntingly familiar. Turns out I was right on both counts, a rare occurrence indeed. I hadn’t reviewed this brew, but RA had. And let’s just say it wasn’t exactly a glowing recommendation. “This beer is so bland I don’t want to share it, I want to give it away.” * Ouch!
A bright golden pour, a light malt aroma. Seemed like an ideal pour for some mid day drinking. First swig is nice malt with lager sweet, a good old basic lager on tap. As progress was made the sweet disappeared and was replaced with a slightly acerbic finish. The bitter finish was more of a pilsner feature and not an attractive attribute in my books.
I may not be looking forward to another Storyteller any time soon, but I am looking forward to missing the dry February memo again next year.
