I love a good Amber and this offering from Perth Brewery is decent. But before we talk about the beer I have a bone to pick with the label. The beer is called Easy Amber. This is fine, a decent Amber should be easy drinking. But the picture on the label is a different story. Running down a dock and flinging myself off the end is not in my definition of “easy”. Easy would be sitting in a Muskoka chair drinking an Amber. Easy would be floating on an inflatable raft with a cold bevy in hand. Easy would be listening to some decent tunes at the cottage and soaking some rays. Easy is not hurtling myself off the end of a dock with hands held high in the air. There is clearly not enough cranky old men working at Perth Brewery.
Now for the beer… it has a rich, dark colour and slight smokiness to my taste. Good head and smooth finish with just a hint of bitterness. I found the colour surprisingly dark for an amber – but the taste is mild and has enough flavour to make it interesting without offending anyone. The name is fine, the beer is good, they just need to work on the label artwork.
