Man has been searching for the fountain of youth for eons, and here is a Elora Brewing quietly sitting on the secret. It’s right there on the back of the can – if you drink this fresh, you won’t age! Well, I tried it, and my wife informs me that I’m going to need a lot more. So I’m still working on the dosage for this elixir of youth.*
I am a little cranky about the pairings on the back of the can as well. They just went with the images here. From what I can tell this beer pairs well with Birthday cake, balloons, either shrimp or a guy in a sleeping bag, and 1/4 of a bagel. I don’t think those images are becoming universal anytime soon. Is it because you are in a hurry to drink this beer fresh, you don’t have time to eat the whole bagel? Do I even need pairings? How about paired with another beer? Seems more likely to me.
On to the beer, which is branded as a Pale Ale, but should be in the “hazy” category. They don’t come much hazier than this**. If you can get past that cloudy look the taste is quite good. Some bitterness at the start, with a a little bit of a creamy, pine tone to it. Not a super strong, overpowering bitterness, but you know you areĀ drinking a pale ale.The bitterness seemed to fade as a drank – but that was probably my mouth getting used to the taste. You’ll want to leave a little in the bottom of the glass unless you don’t have a food pairing and you are using the solids in the can as your nourishment.
