You had me at Amber.

Time to check out Market conditions, take a break from my rants, and take a chance on a Trance. Market’s Trance lagered amber ale to be precise, and it sure sounds nice. The lady on the can has rainbows in her eyes, quite possibly from Al Jarreau proposing to her,* but more likely enthralled by the prospect of sampling this hypnotic Amber, and I can’t blame her. I guess Jarreau is OK, not my type, but I love me an Amber so I was eager to partake in this mesmerizing malter.

A beauty pour, semi-clear dark copper with a thin white topper. I know it’s not polite to stare, but this pour looked so damn good I couldn’t help it. Let’s see if it has the personality to match its good looks. The caramel aroma smells good enough to drink. The taste is a malt caramel lager sweet body with a slightly crisp ale finish, a nice sequence. As progress is made a touch of bitters shows up as the sweet backs off a bit. Too flavourful to really be smooth, but well balanced and very tasty.

An entrancing quaff, you had me at Amber.

*Editor’s Comment: In Al Jarreau’s 1976 song “Rainbow in Your Eyes” he isn’t just sweet talking a potential lover, he’s proposing to her. Jarreau hit his stride in the 80’s with his album “Breakin’ Away” and over his career won 10 Grammys. His last hit was the theme song from the 1980’s Bruce Willis Cybil Shepherd TV show “Moonlighting”.
