After sampling a biere from the land of Brador and 3am last calls, our coast to coast Canada toast now takes us to the province of Ontari-ari-ari-o. Home of the World Champion Raptors, the World Champion Blue Jays, and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
When I was a kid those flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz * scared the shit out of me. Creepy things. Nightmares. And although I never found IPAs particularly frightening, right up front let me say that for quite a while an IPA was not my cup of tea either. Actually, a cup of tea is not my cup of tea. Since I don’t drink tea any cup of tea is most likely someone else’s cup of tea. Maybe my old buddy JT’s cup of tea but not mine.
And with a name like Juicy Ass, I expected hoppiness not happiness, a bitter beginning right through to the bitter end. They talk about “a golden ambrosia of beautiful hops” and about pine, tangerine and passion fruit, sounds like a lumberjack fruit salad. The stars were aligned for a bad review. Let’s just say I was ready to tear Juicy Ass a second one.
Much to my surprise I liked it! Juice noted, ass absent. Not too bitter, good taste, refreshing. A refreshing citrus juicer with the just the right balance. A good beer experience from beginning to end. Well done Flying Monkeys.
