An Irish ale with a Scottish name. Houndstooth? I see a pattern developing here. The Scots and Irish were not always the best of neighbours. * Even today a dispute is brewing, that being Brew Dog challenging Guiness to a stout froth off. ** Heady times.
The Eastbound hound on the can isn’t wearing houndstooth but most likely has a few of his own. But what’s in the can is of more interest to me than what’s on the can.
In my glass it radiates a ruddy red, bordering on brown, with an off-white head. Caramel on the nose, it certainly smells very tasty. And it tastes tasty too! First pull is a caramel nutty quaff, a bit fizzy with a light smooth clean finish. Delicious. Eastbound recommend paring with prime rib, aged cheddar and a fish fry. I wonder if my Sun Chips count as an aged cheddar pairing? I think almost anything would go well with this caramel forward red.
They call it a pub classic. Classy and classic for sure.I’d wolf down a round of the hound any day.
If you are looking for some hair of the dog that bit you, look no further.
