My daughter-in-law was visiting and is going gluten free (are blueberry muffins gluten free?) and being a good host I made a gluten free addition to the beer fridge. From the fabled town of Glutenberg, capital of the Free State of Gluten, comes this Glutenberg Blonde*. I also felt it part of my hosting duties to quaff a Glutenberg with her, which I consider one of the more important duties of being a good host.
This brew is made from millet and corn, it sounds like a “stable” diet to me.**
It pours super clear. How clear you ask. Glad you did. Let’s put it this way, it makes Sleeman’s Clear look hazy. So what’s the good word on this sans gluten brew? Well, it has no gluten, no aroma, no colour, no bubbles, no hops, no malt, no bitters, no crisp, no bite, and no aftertaste, but know what, no problem. A lite lager flavour and very easy drinking beer. I expected a cerveza style brew with a corn base but it wasn’t that. Refreshing, it worked well while tending to a strenuous BBQ session of gluten free grillin’ while flipping and sipping. I don’t usually suggest pairings unless the pairing is two beers in a row, but in this case I had some spicy chips and this brew hit the spicy spot. A nice light flavoured good refreshing beer, endorsed by the host with the most.
