Is year is the year? And is this beer the beer? The answer to both questions is probably no but let me explain. My first thought was a beer that boost my beloved Buds from our favourite baseball brewer, bravo! But as my pedantic pain in the ass Editor tells me so often, read the fine print. And the fine print is this. This beer is in support of the Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball team!* A ball team? Who knew? The Leafs usually have a good deal of the summer off unfortunately, but I thought they were all out golfing.
Left Field is the fine purveyor of shorty baseball brews so I guess it all makes sense.
This brew is not quite light but pours clear and bright. A golden hue devoid of any head whatsoever. A fresh and cool malt aroma. And the first taste is malt sweet fizz, with a slightly dry finish. It is a bit grainy like some European lagers. Solid and easy drinking but there is nothing light about this full flavoured malt grain combo. This not quite light is not at all light, but that’s all right.
Cheering on one Leafs team is draining enough, now I have to cheer on two? I guess a fan’s got to do what a fan’s got to do. Go Leafs go, this year is the year. One can hope.
