What could be more golden than… gold? The Sultana Gold Mine was a going concern in the Lake of the Woods area at the turn of the century (1900’s that is). John Caldwell bought the claim in 1889 and made a fortune over the next ten years but sold it in December 1899. And to paraphrase Jerry Reed’s song, Caldwell got the gold mine, the new buyers got the shaft. It seems (or seams) that Caldwell had taken almost every ounce of gold out of the place before selling to unwary buyers. It’s been said before, buyer beware, all that glitters is not gold.*
Nice golden pour, what would you expect? A fresh aroma, not strong. A very easy drinking ale. No hoppiness or bitters to speak of. The word crushable comes to mind. This is a refreshing and easy drinking ale. Did I mention it was easy drinking?
I enjoyed this sessional style golden blonde ale, with a little bit of mining history as a bonus.
