Guv, guy, guzzle. Nope, Guza wasn’t in its preordained spot in my Pocket Oxford. Time to call in the COM Translation department. They puzzled and pondered on the word a bit and then came back to me with a few options.
COMTD: Lots of options here. In Polish it means tumor.* In many languages it means gut. In others it means booty or ass. In Zambia it’s slang for a pretty girl.
Me: I don’t think any of those fit the bill.
COMTD: Well there are as many as 7,000 languages in the world and you know what it translates to in most of them?
Me: That sounds like what I am looking for.
COMTD: In most of the world’s languages “guza” translates to “guza”. Glad we could be of assistance.
The translation team were as helpful as always, so I gave up the Guza. But I was intrigued by another detail of this Extension series brew from The Exchange. A light lager with an IBU of 40? Any lager with an IBU that high is unique, but a light beer? And torrefied maize? Sounds like some scared stiff corn shaking in their kernels. Add in some barley and Cluster hops and you’ve got some old school brewing going on here.
A light golden clear cerveza style pour, sans lime. Bubbly with a bit of head doing a float by. Malt corn aroma, Mexican lager. The taste is light malt, some corn in the mix but not overpowering, with a crisp with bitters finish. An interesting mix, it’s easy drinking until you get to the finish, where the crisp snaps you back to reality. I was wondering about a light lager with a 40 IBU. It is a nice variation on the run of the mill light. A light cerveza but with bitters to make things interesting and in this case Interesting is good.
