This Good Monster brew seemed like a Halloween natural and, teamed up with an unseasonably warm day, it was an IPA destined to support me flippin’ the bird on the old backyard BBQ. The name reminded me of Lady Gaga and all her “little monster” fans. I am a Lady Gaga fan but at my age I figure I must be a “Little Munster”*.
Collective Arts claims to be the most refreshing art gallery in the world. The starry eyed bat on the can is the art work of Katrin Emery out of Ottawa, and it looks her work has graced a few Collective Arts offerings.
My editor keeps telling me to read the fine print but it is a skill that seems to constantly elude me. I didn’t realize until writing this review that this was a double IPA and an 8%ABV.
A bright hazy citrus mad scientist’s bubbly pour with a thin ghost like head-stone. A great fruit aroma, citrus with tropical as well. Hazy and bubbly in the glass, not bubbly on the tongue. First drink is a very tasty fruit body, lots of fruit, with a touch of bitter part way through and a smooth as opposed to hoppy finish. A touch boozy on the finish which works well with the substantial fruit body. A big hot weather BBQ style swig and this brew is consistent, fruit body, touch of bitter mellow finish, touch of booze brews. Not at all monstrous, it really is a good monster of a double IPA. While I was quaffing this brew I didn’t realize it was an 8% until it was too late, or maybe I realized it at just the right time?
More fruit, less hops and bitters and minimal booziness compared to most double IPAs. Very tasty.
