Gozer the Gozerian, vs. Gösser the Austrian
Gösser the Austrian. Not to be confused with Gozer the Gozerian (also known as Gozer the Destructor, Gozer the Traveler, Volguus Zildrohar, and Lord of the Sebouillia). It now becomes apparent how important an umlaut is to differentiate between Austria’s favourite lager and an ancient God worshipped by the Hittites, Mesopotamians, and the Sumerians around 6000BC. *
“Gut Besser Gemeinsamn” the Gösser gang tell us, which contractually obligates me, against my better judgment, to call on the COMDB Translation Department. They berate me for asking for a German translation no where near Oktoberfest, but eventually they provide the translation “good, better, together”. Time to pour this Austrian down the ol’ von Trapp and see if it this is “one of my favourite things” or if there is a problem with “Maria”. **
A bright golden semi-clear pour, a slim head of Edelweiss white. A malt bready not heady aroma. The first taste is malt crisp lager sweet with a dry finish and a touch of floral. For a plain old lager it is a bit complex, a lot going on but it all blends together nicely. Refreshing. It doesn’t evolve much although it does display a bit more of a Flemish floral flourish for a finish over time. ***
A nice refreshing lager.
