Great Scott?

Scottie

Old Dog Brewing Co.

4.7% Alcohol

Will this brew render a “Great Scott!* (an expression of wonder and impressiveness) or Great Scott? (an expression of shock and disgust). Old Dog brewers are hoping that this Scottie will be my new best friend. Hmmm. We shall see.

A nice hazy caramel toffee like pour with a bright white tam atop.  It has an earthy nutty aroma, a bit different, dare I say unique?  This little Scottie drinks roasted barley nutty with malt in the background, a little fizzy. It has a crisp and slightly sweet finish, perhaps a touch of caramel in the finish. A little fizzy, a little malty, a little nutty, a little sweet. And a little tasty too. A smooth finish, some bark but no bite.

Not a Great Scott**, but this brew certainly deserves a Good Scott. Maybe not my new best friend, let’s just call him a nutty buddy.

*Editor’s Comment: The expression “Great Scott” is an exclamation of surprise, wonder, shock or disbelief. It is frequently assumed that “Great Scott” is a minced oath of some sort, the Oxford Dictionary calls the expression dated and identifies it as an arbitrary euphemism for Great God! There are other sources who feel that “Great Scott” refers to Winfield Scott, a General of the American Civil War who weighed about 300 pounds and was referred to by his troops as "Great Scott".

**Editor’s Comment: Some great Scots include Adam Smith (the origins of modern capitalism), Sir Alexander Fleming (discoverer of penicillin), and Alexander Graham Bell (inventor of the phone). There are many great Scottish authors including Robbie Burns, Robert Louis Stevenson, and of course Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
