Hazy Days in Blyth Ontario

Hazy Days IPA

Cowbell Brewery

6% Alcohol

Hazy Days kind of sums up most of 2021 with the pandemic making days run together and feeling the same for most of us. Cowbell Brewing is located in Blyth, Ontario which I had to check on Maps to see where the hell it was. A village of approximately 1000 Wikipedia says – that’s a pretty round number and the addition of approximately makes me think that it is probably a lot less than this, but nobody is really sure where the town boundaries are, so they just threw out 1000. But they have a craft brewery, so things are not all bad. The brewery is very impressive – it looks like a castle. This isn’t a couple of guys deciding to make beer in the barn on the weekend, someone clearly spent some big $$ in Blyth.

Let’s get to the beer. Cloudy in the glass which is to be expected from a hazy beer. First taste is citrus with a ton of hopiness that grabs you and gives you a shake. This is an aggressive IPA that demands attention. The brewmaster at Cowbell put four different hop varieties into this beer. The result is lots of flavour, but they might be competing with each other for my taste buds. It just doesn’t seem to settle on a single flavour.

There is an appeal here which is refreshing and might work better in the summer heat – but the flavour doesn’t quite work together to my taste.
