After a bad experience with a zingless no hops IPA of the English variety, I thought I would get right back on that horse so to speak, but this time with a highflying hefty IBU Quebec brassy IPA. Viva la difference! I am assuming kick ass even before trying this brew for two reasons. The angry/mean looking biker girl on the can, and the name “Ci Boire” which if my fractured Français proves true means “here to drink”. What a coincidence, so am I. An IBU of 65 may indicate a tad of zing in the thing as well.
Archibald’s IPA provides a golden hazy healthy and hearty helmet head pour. A malt hop aroma mix, odd but not off-putting. It smells boozy not zingy! But we aren’t here for the sights and smells, we are here to drink, aren’t we. The taste is of malt with fruit and pine bitters , with a bitter aftertaste. The bitters are in charge and they aren’t about to relinquish control any time soon. Our field officer for these maneuvers is Major Zing! The bitters mellow a bit as this brew comes into balance half-way through. Now the bitters are back, where did they go; coffee break, sabbatical, work to rule? Who knows, who cares. It’s all good, the bitters are stand out but not outrageous.
This is a malt based slight tropical fruit strong bitters traditional English IPA from la belle province. Viva la zing.
