Not an IPA? Well sort of. It’s an ISA. Maybe a good description is an IPA light. Less than 5% so lite on ABV, lite on hops, lite on malt. Lite3.  Maybe an entry level IPA for non IPA drinkers?

I visited the brewery once and they explained their naming convention with the numbers. Unfortunately I may have over indulged in the free samples and I can’t recall what the numbers mean.** Of course the only important numbers are my rating!

This beer has a light fruity taste and a bit of carbonation. Nothing over the top so it maintains a good balance. Easy drinking, refreshing. A nice alternative to an IPA for those who aren’t out to get all hopped up. I enjoyed it, a good option for a nice hot day.

*Editor's Comment: "Highway Star" is a song by the English rock band Deep Purple from their sixth studio album "Machine Head", released in 1972.

**Editor's Comment: Gateway City naming convention makes reference to various modes of transportation. 11.17 refers to the two highways that cross in North Bay.
