Cool evening, good excuse for a dark brew by the fire, not that I need an excuse these days.*
Award winning the can says. Not sure what that means anymore. These days awards are like opinions, everyone has one. In my day it was the best and the rest. According to Vince Lombardi** there was one winner, and everyone else was a loser. If you’re not first, it’s the worst. Today we give ribbons for participation! That’s like rubbing salt in the wound. Speaking of salt, as you may have guessed I take every beer can brag with a grain of salt. Check out my review of Tiger Asian Ale, a self-professed multiple award winner, the review is titled “Unimpressed”. I think you get the picture.
All that being said, this could be the greatest beer ever brewed, but we will never know until we indulge, now will we.
This brew poured dark with a tinge of red in there. A next to no head, thinner than the steaks at Ponderosa***. A porter style aroma, nice full flavour aroma with a touch of chocolate or is that my imagination? First swig gave a mild porter flavour, good, with a thin mouthfeel. Almost like a cross between a porter and a lager, even though its an English Ale. Some carbonation on the first swig, fizz forward, but after a couple of quaffs it dissipated. Nice flavour, not as aggressive as a porter but full enough. The can provides an apt description “mild, light body, full flavour.”
Not sure about what award this brew garnered but it was the best beer I drank last night!
