Honey of a Beer

Kilarney Cream Ale

Manitoulin Brewing Co.

5% Alcohol

When I was a kid my parents let us have pop and chips once a week, on Saturday night because it was hockey night in Canada. Today I can have an adult beverage of choice, and chips, whenever I want (with the wife’s permission of course), so on Saturday night with the Leafs in the arena I chill a glass and pour myself a cold one.

When I was a kid there were 6 teams and the Leafs won the cup in 67. Today with Covid there are 7 Canadian teams in the division and the Leafs are leading the pack. Coincidence? I think not.* The way I look at it if there were still only 6 teams in the league the Leafs would have won a lot more cups.** But I digress.

So a Killarney Cream ale with local honey. Note, you are not having a beer with a local honey, just with honey. Why do I need honey in my beer? I’m not drinking tea. See my review of Juicy Ass IPA for more on tea.

Nice pour, looks good, tastes good. I make a point of not reading the can until after I have quaffed the brew so to be honest I never noticed the honey in this. All I noticed was a great tasting smooth drinking cream ale. I enjoyed it. Good flavour and the honey must have smoothed it out a bit. Other brewers can take a lesson here, if you are going to add something to tweak the flavour add a hint of it, not a bushel of it.  Tasty cream ale. Maybe I’ll share one with my local honey.

*Editor’s Comment: Not only is it not a coincidence but the points are neither causal nor correlational.

** Editor’s Comment: Statistically this seems quite obvious.

*** Reviewer’s Comment: If you’re so smart how come you’re editing beer reviews?
