The armchair COMDB Euro trip and tip brew tour continues, and it should be no surprise that at some point we’d end up in Italy. After all, they say all roads lead to Rome. Except of course for that well paved and multilane highway to hell which despite the heavy toll is always busy and headed in the opposite direction to the Vatican. Perhaps that’s the exception that proves the rule? Will I be using any more trite and tired cliches in this review? Only time will tell.
Our BBQ brew review today is none other than an old familial, the classic Italian straight from Rome, * none other than a Peroni Nastro Azzurro. The COMDB translation department has been working overtime on these Euro brews, charging double time and taking twice as long. And no, “Nastro Azzurro” doesn’t mean “nasty water” as some of you may have thought. The COMDB cracker jack translation team tell us that it translates to “Blue Ribbon”.**
My BBQ registered 400 degrees and the air wasn’t much cooler, so this Peroni turned into one good ol’ big swig test. The heat had me a bit frazzled but my Peroni was cool calm and collected out of the can and into my glass. Not wanting it to warm too quickly, I drank it too quickly. Big swigs seemed to be not just a luxury, but a necessity. So, the tasting details are as sketchy as a plaid clad used car salesman. But here’s what I have. Slightly fizzy light malt with a mild lager sweet. No hops or bitters just a touch of graininess balanced with the sweet. Very drinkable, a good BBQ, tailgate, golf course thirst aid first aid kinda brew.
A solid basic big swig big brewer lager. A good beer when it’s very cold and it’s very hot.
