Is Sober Hockey Captain an Oxymoron?

The Sober Hockey Captain

Henderson Brewing Co.

0.5% Alcohol

In most cases the hockey captain is sober before the game, and I know if the Leafs’ captain is getting drunk after a playoff game it’s not on champagne. Henderson offered us their best and when we were done with that we got their least, a zero IPA that was OK.  So this is actually the second Henderson zero percent experiment entrant.

He’s got my vote.

If you are the designated driver for your hockey team’s post win celebration or post loss commiserations, you need to be sober but at least you can have a beer with an apropos name to it. But if you are the team captain and you’re drinking this beer I would have to question your leadership abilities. What kind of an after-game session would it be if everyone was drinking a zero? A sobering thought for sure. That “C” on your jersey comes with some responsibilities, dammit. One of them being to get hammered after the game and lead by example. I’m sure Don Cherry could explain this better than I can. *

This 0.5% Pale Ale is clear light golden and bubbly. A head that shows up but then leaves before the party even gets started. Noseless, aroma MIA. The first taste is a watery pale, citrus with a slightly grainy dry finish. The light sessionable pale citrus fades a bit and so does the grain. It’s quite light to start with so there’s not much more room to fade.

It’s the final straw, no grains left now. What remains is a light nice mild citrus flavour big swigger with no bitters.

*Editor’s Comment: Although your logic in this case is somewhat questionable, I’m certain most people could explain almost anything better than you can.
