The canoed (rather than caped) Canadian crusader Mr. Canoehead is alive and well in this red ale offering from Sleeping Giant. SG tells us that this brew will “strike you like a lightning bolt….. without fusing a canoe to your head.” If this all seems a bit out there, perhaps you don’t recall the crime fighting antics of Mr. Canoehead* from the 1986 show “Four on the Floor” by the Canadian comedy troupe the Frantics.
This brew didn’t have a canoe head but it came close, a frantic foaming , but it all settled nicely. A deep red, dark red, colour to it. I had to hold it up to the light to see the red. Some fruit and more hops in a nice refreshing aroma. This ale has an easy drinking crisp flavour with a bit of a hoppy finish with slight and just right bitters. I was encouraged to take big refreshing swigs. It has a nice mouthfeel and settled into a nice red with a crisp bit of bitters in the finish. A solid red ale with hops in the house.
Mr. Canoehead is a super brew in my books.
