Crystal Clear on What This Beer is Not
Grinding but not shining through one of those days that feels like a week of daze. But as the day winds up and I wind down it’s time for a stroll down Saulter Street for a beer, and it’s about bloody time. The folks at Saulter are as clear as can be on the can about what this beer is not. They tells us that after all the milkshake stouts and face puckering sours it’s time for a real beer, and you guessed it, that beer is It’s About Bloody Time.
This back to reality English Ale pours an amber brownie brown with a toffee white topper. A light dark customer, it churns up bittersweet memories of ambers past. Malt with some caramel and fruit on the nose. Wow, first swig is rye kicking malt’s ass all over the town. The rye settles quickly and this brew morphs into a malt rye with some sweet in there too. The bitters on the backend are from the rye it seems.
As we progressed it appeared more and more like an amber body with some bitters at the end. Full flavoured and tasty, an interesting ale. Bordering on amber, and God knows I love me an amber. Smoothing and soothing, with a mild bitter finish. A back-to-basics big body and backend bitter brew, and after all these crazy brews we sample it’s about bloody time.
