Another trip round the sun and none the wiser for it. I guess making it through a year like this is cause enough for celebration. Not that I need much of a cause to snap the cap on a Merchant Ale House big bottle brew. Jacked & Juicy sounds like another Jack Black duet,* but no need to get tenacious about this hazy IPA. It’s just my juiced up laid-back celebration libation to ring in the new year.

Corner Brook Countdown
Farmer Steve tells us” the chances of me being up at midnight are the same as the chances of the Oilers winning the cup…. Not a chance in hell”, and him a diehard Oilers fan to boot! I have to agree, the days of epic New Year’s Eve soirees have gone by the wayside, it’s another one and done night for me. That being said, it’s 12 o’clock somewhere so I changed the clocks to Corner Brook time** and got as jacked and juiced as one brew can do for my midnight toast.
2024 is looking bright with this sunny pour. 500 ml of happy hoppy new year’s cheer. A citrus orange glow of a brew, as hazy as a Bay of Islands pea souper. Definitely some hops involved in this celebration by the smell of things, with a juicy aroma to match. This end of year tasting started as a funky full-bodied brew, as juicy as its name would suggest, with a mildly bitter grapefruit finish, very nice. A soft full silky smooth mouthfeel, not stout-like but not far off either. A nice sequence of juice, juice funk, and a zing finish. Unlike Tenacious D,* this jacked and juicy is a balanced duo.
Warming a bit didn’t really change it, a very consistent brew from snapped cap to final tap. And here’s a toast to one and all for a juicy happy, and mildly hoppy new year.
