For an exhilarating evening activity I thought I would do some deck chair climbing of Moosehead mountain. This Alpine pint is a legacy lager, the original Oland brew,* a 1937 throwback and I’m going to throw one back tonight. I was half baked by the sun all day and I’m hoping this old school wobbly pop will finish the job.
My climb ended on the top of the boathouse, that being my peak performance when it comes to climbing. But from there I could survey the surroundings, watch over the waters, lord over the lake, bay at the bay, and finish off with a quaff. The Moosehead mountaineers tell us that this beer is ” as real as it gets”, which seems like a great beer for me as the missus often tells me to ” get real”. Really, she does.
A muggy moonless night is the background for a golden clear pour, not much snow atop Moosehead mountain this time of year. Smells like beer. Malt, a bit of graininess and a flat crisp finish, slight bitter aftertaste. As easy as a two piece puzzle. This is one back to basics brewski that’s keeping it real. As it warms a bit the crisp finish takes on some bitters. This is camp cooler material. As JT would say ” beer flavoured beer”.
This tasting involves an easy peasy three step process. 1. Chill to just above freezing. 2. Drink quickly. 3. Have another. A good solid lager that the whole family can enjoy, if they are of legal drinking age and not in the program.
