Tom Cochrane’s highway
As we continue our coast-to-coast toast to Canada, we leave the great lakes of Ontario for the land of 10,000 lakes, Manitoba, the start of the prairie provinces. We roll on down the highway with a great Manitoba band, BTO.* When Fonger first heard that song he thought it was a sequel to a Cheech and Chong movie.
Tom Cochrane is also from Manitoba and when he wrote the song “Life is a Highway” ** he may well have been thinking about the longest paved highway in the world, the Trans Canada Highway. Just think, the largest beer spa in the world and the longest highway in the world,*** right here in Canada. Who knows what JT was up to when he found the largest beer spa in the world, but he may well have been travelling on the Trans Canada when he found Nonsuch Brewery in Winnipeg Manitoba. Time for a little luck of the Irish in our glass just in time for Saint Patrick’s Day.
Stopping in for a bite at Nonsuch, a trendy spot in downtown Winnipeg. A lucky find. Good food to go along with an Irish Red which was very good. Light and earthy with little bitterness – a smooth drink. One of those brews where you suddenly discover your glass is almost empty.
