I am no Willy Wonka but I like me some chocolate every now and then. But would a double chocolate stout be above and beyond?
I like trying all kinds of different beers. If they aren’t that good I can do a cranky review which suits my disposition. If they are good, well I get to drink a good beer and give kudos where kudos are due. But the best ones are the surprises, the ones you weren’t expecting much from that deliver the goods.
So where does this stout fit into the picture? I was concerned that double chocolate would be double the chocolate that I would like. Too much of a good thing. I was concerned that this was another Brit brew trying to emulate a Guinness. The brewer describes their beer as “pure luxury in a glass”. Of course, I will be the judge of that.
A familiar nitro pop as I open the can. It pours thick and dark and tan. A beautiful pour, as the tan head gathers at the top of the glass into a nice thick tan head. The head is a light tan, darker than it looks in the picture. A definite chocolate aroma. First swig delivered a smooth coffee chocolate full flavour. Full textured, a great, dare I say spectacular, mouthfeel. The whole experience reminded me of Guinness and I don’t reference the big G lightly. A delicious flavoured stout, full chocolate flavour with coffee in the background. Smooth, luxurious is a well-earned descriptor.
