Looking for Mr. Goodbeer

Double Dip

Something in the Water Brewing Co.

6.2% Alcohol

After a series of less than super suds samplings, just like Diane K. I was looking for Mr. Goodbeer. * A craving for a curious craft led me to an establishment known to us COMDB as the Curious Club, the one and only Something in the Water, the  Kingston version not Liberty Village. Ok so there’s more than one, it just an expression damn it. Anyway, just like many a well off politician, I thought I would try a Double Dip. This one wasn’t going to make me rich, or get me impeached, but I did have high hopes for SITW’s new West Coast Double Dry Hopped Pilsner.

If there was a Nobel Prize for brewing I would nominate whomever thought up combining an IPA and a Pilsner. ** One of my new personal favorites. *** To double dry hop one could well be another stroke of genius, or will it be too much of a good thing? Time to taste and tell this tap.

A slightly hazy golden pour with a frothy foam topper.  A very tropical aroma with hops, more of an IPA then AK IPA already. A nice fruity juicy body, middlin’ hops to follow with a flat dry mildly bitter finish. A masterclass in balance. More bitters than crisp, a great sequence. This one is a big swig all star, it was only through the substantial amount of will power I had available from not using much previously that I was able to make this one last more than a few quaffs.

I’m happy to report that Mr.Goodbeer has been found.

* Editor’s Comment: The 1977 movie Looking for Mr.Goodbar was a dark and intense crime thriller, a departure for Diane Keaton from her previous roles. It was the first substantial role for Richard Gere and the film debut for Tom Berenger. The movie was based on the 1975 book by Judith Rossner and inspired by the 1973 murder of schoolteacher Roseann Quinn.

**Editor's Comment: The West Coast Pilsner was a happy accident from Bob Kunz and Tim McDonnell at Highland Park Brewery in Los Angeles in 2015. They were invited to bring a cask to a festival and had no time to brew a new one so they mixed their Pilsner with a West Coast IPA. The result was a big hit and Timbo West Coast Pilsner was born.

***Editor’s Comment: I hear Amber is jealous.
