Sarah MacLachlan thought that love was better than ice cream. Tom Waits is an ice cream man you probably don’t want selling to the kids. And Van Halen’s David Lee Roth was an ice cream man who made house calls.*
Lost Craft (where did I put that boat) Brewery is delivering ice cream too, but not just any ice cream, how about a can full of Neapolitan! For those of you who are lactose intolerant and may not be familiar with Neapolitan ice cream (so named because it originated in Naples) the most recent Americanized version is a combination of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry, each in it’s own layer. Let’s see if Lost Craft’s creamy chocolate, vanilla and strawberry stout can earn it’s Neapolitan moniker.
A stout but dark heart pour with a sliver of compassion where the cherry usually is. Mild roasted malt on the nose with a hint of strawberry, smells delish. Definitely a vanilla ice cream, strawberry, chocolate with coffee taste, busy and complex but tasty and true to it’s name. Mild coffee roast with an ice cream strawberry sweet finish, a bit too sweet maybe? Or maybe not? This fence is getting uncomfortable, I am going to have to get off it in the next few swigs. Nice creamy sweet stout perhaps a touch less sweet strawberry on the finish would balance this high wire act. This brew delivers exactly what it promises, a creamy chocolate, vanilla and strawberry stout with some coffee to go with your dessert. Maybe a touch on the sweet side for me but nonetheless it’s tasty.
Maybe instead of “Ice Cream” we should be listening to Sarah singing “Sweet Surrender”. **
