A marshallow IPA? A craft brew concept so bizarre that it could only be the handiwork of those freaky far-out Flying Monkeys. Those flashy flyers are a COM favourite, but to be honest I always thought marshmallows were a campfire confection best served on flame and melting into a charred blob at the end of sticky stick of green pine. I don’t recall ever sidling up to the bar at Ye Cranky Olde Inn to ask for a pint of marshmallow infused draft. However when it comes to beer us COM are brave, adventurous and open minded. For anything else, not so much.
A golden clear pour, devoid of any haze, particles or evervesence. A lovely malt mallow topper, it is a pretty pour. A Creamsicle sweet aroma with just a touch of hoppiness. A creamy sweet taste with an itty bitty bit of bitters, and a mildly bitter sweet aftertaste. Sounds weird, tastes good. Very easy drinking. Is the sweet getting a bit too squishy? Perhaps.
You know how somethings grow on you? Not this one. The sweet and bitters turned out to be a bitter- sweet sampling. At first the sweet was OK but as quaff went on it became a bit cloying. Maybe a stubby would have been the right quantity for a chance at super suds stardom, but alas, such a rating was not to be.
I think I prefer my marshmallows by the campfire a la flambe, on a stick not in a glass.
